Mujambo, DeviantArt, this is Chidi the Litleo, and today I’ll be talking to you about the Changelings. First introduced in A Canterlot Wedding…

…Yeah, that. Afterwards, they move to to the next area to feed on the love there, as explained in Fiendship is Magic #5. This brings to mind the 「トノサマバッタ」 or migratory locust. Speaking of insects, that brings me to my next point of contention: the Changeling reproduction cycle.

Referring back to the locust, Changeling reproduction is a parthenogenetic process. Don’t know what parthenogenesis is? Well, it’s a type of reproduction, asexual in nature, in which the offspring develops from unfertilized eggs. “Why am I telling you this?” you may ask.

Well, I believe that Changelings, specifically the Queen, reproduce like bees. Any excess love energy absorbed by the queen, in this case Chrysalis, is stored in a stomach-like organ until the reproductive cycle, which can take upwards of two months.

Afterwards, the love energy is sent to the changeling queen’s reproductive organs to gestate for ten to twenty weeks, after which the eggs, laid in clusters of ten to fifteen, are incubated by midwives until hatching day.

Now that sounds like a lot to take in, but hear me out: This is why we saw such a large army during the Canterlot Wedding two parter. It was because it was Chrysalis’ time of the year, and she needed to take time out of her schedule to hatch, raise and train those Changelings in time to invade Canterlot.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed your Biology lesson for today, and I’ll see you Next time with more things to think about. Until then, じゃね、でガオ.
